  1. Evaluation of Newcastle College Interview

Overall I think my interview went badly. From the start I realised half of my c.v was missing and id forgot my picture. The woman picked away at my personal statement and basically said that if i came on the course she didnt want me to just redo my second year of creative advertising.

I think this statement was fair but at the same time its not what I would be doing. She didn’t seem interested in my portfolio at all which is what I thought would be questioned.

This experience has taught me to always be prepared. It also taught me that some people might not even give feedback on portfolio.

  2. Maya

I have recently taken a liking to Maya the 3d design software. Maya can be used to create games, 3d applications, animation and visual effects. I think after ive learnt more about cinema 4d im going to try my hand at Maya. Id like to keep learning how to use these kind of programs, so if im trying to direct a designer i know what im talking about. This will also produce the best possible results for my campaign.

  3. Kindle Advertising

I’ve jsut been reading up on the new Kindle that will be released soon. Kindle, cheaper, but supported by adverts. Effectively what they’re doing is putting adverts in books. Why didnt anyone think of this sooner? Of course there’s an incentive to buy the Kindle with adverts and 18% discount will sound great to some people. Will this be enough for users to be presented with adverts? time will tell.

A good feature is you can choose between two adverts for your screen saver. This makes it slightly more user friendly.

I think advertising creatives will have a lot more ways to reach their target market if advert supported gadgets take off.

  4. Re-branding IFNE

My Relative has started working for a new company and she asked if I could throw something together that she could show the chief executive. They need a full rebrand and a website and I said I would help. She suggested I keep it the same sort of design but update it. I came up with this.

    Before

    After:

I’m still working on it and im going to give the web design a go. Even if they decide against using it im sure I can put it in my portfolio.

  5. Quit Smoking

This is great visual imagery and hits a varied target audience. Id like to add pieces like this to my portfolio. A simple image that gets across a message perfectly.

  6. Maximum Absorption

This advert is really nice. It works perfectly.

  7. Typography Poster

I love this typography poster by Mark Watt. Its inspired me to try my hand at it. Ill post the results in due course!

  8. Favourite Advert

This advert is my favourite. It gives me goosebumps! They actually got the idea off an old american game show where they done the same thing, but obviously it wasnt as beautiful as this execution.

  9. In-House Advertising

I decided to research in-house advertising as I felt i didn’t know enough about it. After researching it I feel that its quite a good idea for smaller companies. I can see why a business would like to handle their own advertising. Who possibly knows more about the product than they do? A good example of in-house advertising is channel 4’s 4creative. Channel 4 already has a lot of creative talent employed amongst their organisations. 4creative pitches for the broacasters briefs against outside agencies.

On the other hand an agency gives you lots of creative input and strategy, something in-house advertising could struggle to compete with.

  10. Saatchi & Saatchi

Saatchi & Saatchi was another agency I was dying to visit. Compared to Ogilvy and Y&R I found Saatchi the more traditional of the three.

We met Suzanne Hails and she sat down and critiqued our work. We came up with an idea that involved Sunday being San Miguel day. We had the strap line ‘On the Seventh Day’. This tied together our idea that San Miguel could be drank on a slow day like sunday. Hense working well with the proposition of San Miguel being a slow beer.

Suzanne wasnt sure that the strap line worked but loved the idea. She said On the Seventh Day’ sounded holy and wasn’t sure San Miguel should be described in that tone of voice.

She told us about how she got her first job. I like hearing creatives job success stories because it makes me want to work harder.
